EBooks and eDocs publishing over the internet are growing. Writers & publishers used to be doubtful about the commercial viability of eBooks publishing, notwithstanding the 100% and more sales growth of recent years.
Studies shown that the top selling eBooks at Amazon might be selling about ten copies per day, but that's most likely the ceiling. Looking at the blend of eBooks in the top fifty to hundred titles, the most popular eBooks are cheap (fewer than ten dollars, sometimes even less than five); titles are mostly business related subjects or, "Adult" oriented ("Adult" was used very loosely here). If Amazon sells an eBook one copy per day on their web site, that's usually sufficient to keep it in their top hundred bestsellers.
EBooks sales were rising at over 100% yearly. That's possibly true, but they started from zero not too long ago, so it has more potential to grow. The main reason we publish eBooks was demand from overseas customers. Most readers want to buy books but the shipping was slow or expensive. They can purchase our eBook, download, and be reading it minutes later, on a broadband connection. The moment we published the eBooks, it turned out that many local readers wanted them too, either because they like reading off computer screens or they just want it right away - even if a paper book is in stock online elsewhere, but you usually can't get it on the same day. In fact, during the festival season when Amazon sold out many paper books and the shipping time rose to two to three weeks, the eBook sales rose enormously to take up the slack. Some professionals also buy eBooks that they save on the laptop, just to have them accessible all the time, but it comes down to an economic preference for most buyers - do away with the shipping charge and possibly get a discount.
